The Your Voice or Theirs campaign are working hard to stop the racist and fascist BNP winning the extra 0.29% of the vote in London they need to gain a seat on the London Assembly. In 2004, the BNP got 4.71%. They need 5%.
The Union of Jewish Students played an instrumental part in making last week’s NUS Conference one of the most successful ever for Jewish students. Around 80 Jewish students were among 1000 delegates for a week of political debate in Blackpool. By the end of the Conference, UJS had secured a number of notable victories.
On Sunday, 13th April UJS once again emerged as a critical component of the UK campaign that seeks to end the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan as Jewish students arrived with youth movements from around the UK to protest outside the Sudanese Embassy in London.
Student Unions across the country have held elections over the past few weeks and Jewish students have been elected to key positions in many of the major unions. UJS activists have won impressive election results and taken on senior roles in the running of the unions.

On January 27, 2008, the Jewish community helped commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day in Great Britain. Throughout the country, there were various memorial services held, and student leaders were critical in planning and holding services designed to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, one of the darkest periods in human history.

Liverpool v Everton, Rangers v Celtic and Spurs v Arsenal. These had nothing on the encounter between Birmingham and Nottingham JSocs recently in what is hoped to be a regular fixture on their sporting calendars. The first of many Nottingham v Birmingham derbys was played on a cold January afternoon with bragging rights and the UJS golden boot trophy (which will be given an official name in due course) on the line.

UJS is now beginning a Heroes Campaign, aiming at inspiring Jewish leadership countrywide and pushing Jewish students to stand up and make a difference. The Heroes campaign will target various projects throughout the year and put a spin on each one, showing how through that programming, there is the potential to create Jewish heroes.
UJS and Rene Cassin joined forces to take a few committed campaigners and activists to Geneva, to the UN Human Rights Council for the first time this year with amazing success.
